Boston Globe on New Music Venues

From The Boston Globe

...there is also a new wave in the presentation of contemporary classical music that Boston has so far been sleeping through. It's about moving beyond genre distinctions, not in how music is conceived but in how it is programmed. At places like Wordless Music and Le Poisson Rouge in New York, Music Now in Cincinnati, and the record labels Cantaloupe Music and New Amsterdam, new classical music is appearing alongside other genres that invite serious listening - whether they be avant-garde jazz, indie rock, or various world-music traditions. Most people don't listen within strict genre categories, so why should concerts and festivals be required to cleave to these boundaries? More to the point, creative programming in this spirit may be the best way for presenters to get curious open-eared younger listeners in the door.
