Claire Chase, First Prize winner of the 2008 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, is a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, cultural producer and experimental arts entrepreneur. A passionate leader and innovator in 21st century music performance and production, Claire performs and produces events in venues ranging from the stages of the world's most important concert halls to warehouses, galleries, clubs and public spaces. Over the past ten years, she has given the world premieres of over 100 new solo works for the flute, many of them tailor-made for her unique performance style. Claire's extensive discography includes recordings with various groups for the Tzadik, Bridge and Naxos labels, and her debut solo album, aliento, which features world premiere recordings of new works for flute and electronics, will be released in September 2009 on the New Focus Recordings label. Claire has been recognized for her work with awards from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, ASCAP, Chamber Music America, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, the Theodore Presser Foundation, and the National Young Artist Competition, among others. Claire co-founded the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) in 2001, described by the New Yorker as "a powerhouse of new-music programming on a Chicago-New York axis...brilliant and unexpected," with whom she has performed, recorded and toured internationally. Currently the Executive Director of ICE, Claire manages both the New York and Chicago ICE offices, and is working on establishing a West Coast arm of the organization.
