Jan Vogler and the Knights -- Experience: Live from New York (From LPR)
A recent story from Minnesota Public Radio's Valerie Kahler begins, "Dmitri Shostakovich, a New York club setting and an unconventional classical band make for an intriguing mix."
That mix has resulted in a new cd by Jan Vogler and the New York ensemble The Knight recorded right here at LPR. As Kahler goes on to explain, "The recording is complete with hundreds of patrons so gung-ho to hear the concert (and ensure a great recording) that they cheerfully gave up ice in their drinks and air conditioning in the club. No whirring, less clinking, but plenty of whooping and whistling and altogether un-concert hall-like sounds."

Jan Vogler & the Knights release Live at LPR album
Jan Vogler & The Knights performed at LPR a few months back and were recording a live album titled Experience: Live From New YorkA review of the album from All Music:
The survival of classical music may hinge on its ability to appear prominently outside the standard venues of concert halls and recording studios, thereby reaching a much larger audience of listeners who might otherwise never be treated to the masterworks of the canonical repertoire. New York-based ensemble the Knights seeks to do that by coupling its impressively broad repertoire (ranging from classical to jazz to world music) with a desire to play in locations where one might not expect to see an orchestra. For this Sony album, the Knights appear in the New York landmark known as Le Poisson Rouge, formerly known as the Village Gate and home to performances by luminaries like Jimi Hendrix, alongside Jan Vogler for an unlikely but well-planned program of Shostakovich works. Although the weighty First Concerto is the centerpiece of the program, it's the engaging arrangements of several Shostakovich waltzes that really make the program fit the venue.
