Radio Happy Hour's Tribute to John Hughes This Saturday

This Saturday Radio Happy Hour, with special guest Andrew WK, will pay an unexpected tribute to the late John Hughes. As WCBS's Brandi Thompson reports, "RHH creator Sam Osterhaut helped write the show, which he actually began weeks before Hughes' death, but that will now serve as an homage to Hughes. Star Andrew W.K. will be featured as memorable bad boy John Bender in the "Breakfast Club"-themed show. (Can you see the resemblance?) For Hughes fans, it's an event that's not to be missed!" Read more of Brandi's article here and listen to her interview with Sam Osterhout here.

Tickets are still available for the show. Buy yours here.

"Funny Man" Sam Osterhout Discusses Radio Happy Hour with Ephman

Radio Happy Hour creator and "funny man" Sam Osterhout sat down with Ephman to discuss all things Radio Happy Hour, including a sneak peak into the August 8 episode with Andrew WK. You don't want to miss this...or that show. (Here's my sneak peak: Radio Happy Hour will apparently be channeling The Breakfast Club for August. WTF. Sounds funny.)

From Ephman:

"Sam Osterhout is one lucky fellow. He has this awesome radio show (with all the man made sound effects you can think of), that doesn't get played on the radio.... go figure. It's quickly gaining "cult following" status. You can find episodes on iTunes, or you can visit the Radio Happy Hour website. Totally worth checking out..."

More on Radio Happy Hour

Brandi Thompson of WCBS stopped by LPR last Saturday for the first ever Radio Happy Hour and rather enjoyed herself it seems. Listen to Brandi's commentary (as well as some clips from the show) here. And she's got more photos, like the one above, if you go here.

And, from the blog Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone? comes this video of Norah Jones playing one of two tunes she played for the RHH crowd:

From that site:

"Yes, something on the order of 900 or so people filled the dark Bleecker Street basement club for a 2 p.m. Saturday show that featured singer-songwriter cum actress Norah Jones as guest on a modern take on an old-fashioned radio show. It was just like radio in that it had a cast, sound effects, micophones and a live audience. But there was no radio broadcast. The show was recorded as podcast.
Norah Jones and host Sam Osterhout,

Norah Jones and host Sam Osterhout,

Norah gamely participated in the first of a series of three planned Radio Happy Hour show this summer. answering questions from host Sam Osterhout, playing a few songs on an acoustic guitar, listening to Sam do a slightly absurd trivia quiz to a member of the audience and joining the cast for an amusingly silly radio drama called Terror in Teaneck.

It turned out to be a perfectly pleasant way to spend an hour or with LPR’s brunch menu and some drinks."

(Ok, so there may not have been quite 900 people there. Maybe it felt like that many.)

Radio Happy Hour, Episode One: Success!

Everyone had a great time yesterday for the first ever Radio Happy Hour with host Sam Osterhout and special guest Norah Jones. There are some great pics, including the one above, at Massive Photography.

If you missed the first one, no worries, because RHH will be welcoming Michael Showalter (Sunday, July 11) and Andrew W.K. (Sunday, August 8) later this summer.

See you at those shows!

Radio Happy Hour in New York Press, Bumpershine, & Decider

RHH is getting some more press, thanks to a couple great sites, New York Press and Bumpershine.

From the New York Press:

"Dave Handler, co-founder of the club, labels his brunch 'our alcohol and food infused homage to old time radio drama.' So you can enjoy entertainment just like grandpa and grandma used to love, except you’ll be drunk by 3 in the afternoon.

Norah Jones is slated to host the inaugural Radio Happy Hour on June 13, and comedian Michael Showalter and rocker Andrew WK are taking the stage later this summer. The show is cheap, and all dishes under $10. So if you exercise a little nutritional restraint (probably not happening, but whatever), you’ll get brunch with a side of culture for cheap."

And check out The Onion's Decider for a chance to win a pair of VIP tickets: "Host Sam Osterhout leads guests on a strange journey involving offbeat interview questions, audience participation, live performance, and plenty of drinks throughout..."

Should be some great afternoons this summer!
